LORD NIL:
THE SEVEN
DEADLY SINS
“DANIEL, WE NEED SOMETHING LIKE A TRAILER”
– Gerhard Messmer, The Artist Management
CONTEXT
Sometimes, very rarely, when some people don't do their job well, there's little budget left to save what still needs saving. In this case, it was Gerhard Messmer who called me on behalf of Rainer Hackl from The Artist Management and said: "Daniel, we need a trailer." To my question, "Yeah, for what?"
For an escape artist from Italy who's currently rehearsing his show in Straubing for the next 20 days. Come again, what? When asked if I had time – yes. The budget question was also a yes.
The Artist Management team around Rainer Hackl needed an image trailer for the internationally known escape artist LORD Nil, already famous from America's Got Talent.
The seemingly impossible brief: No budget for more than one cameraman, but quality that needs to be top-tier to compete against the competition at Times Square and Broadway.
HOW IT ALL CAME TOGETHER
When there's no time for planning, you plan on location, on the fly. So a big part of my job was sketching and understanding all the movement patterns of the artist and his dancers during rehearsals, so I could later create the promo trailer nimbly with reduced equipment from multiple takes.
